How to kick your kitchen clutter habit

I’ve figured out a cure for people who just can’t seem to stop stuffing their kitchen with things: Go on vacation!

I’ve stayed at many a vacation condo, where the kitchen is stocked with the basics, and I never felt like I was four mixing bowls, three pots, two appliances or one place setting short of having everything I needed to get a simple dinner ready and on the table. It really is amazing how little we really need in the kitchen.

So if your counters and drawers are overflowing with appliances, assorted serving dishes and every new-fangled gizmo invented, book into a vacation condo fast! You’ll be cured within a week or two. Guaranteed!

Boy, that’s for sure. When I look into my pantry and see all the extras — extra cutlery, coffee maker, screw drivers, rolls of scotch tape, an unused telephone and pots and pans — I wonder how they got there. Toss ‘em all. Living clutter-free is the secret to a happy existence.

How many times have I succumbed to the advertisements for large food processors, smaller versions of the same, mini food choppers etc., used them once and then tried to find a place to store them. Unless you are a chef preparing meals for hundreds of people, who actually hauls these things out on a regular basis? Much quicker to get out a sharp knife and a chopping board and a lot easier to clean up afterwards too.
